At the end of this review it states that both companies have added new models for 2003 using IDENTICAL OPTICS in new housings. I was under the impression that the Victory 2s had much improved optics. It states this on the www.betterviewdesired.com website. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks, Steve.

Steve et al ,
There is a MAJOR difference between the Zeiss VICTORY 2 and the newer Zeiss FL T models.
The newer fluorite models were originally , and confusingly given the additional title VICTORY in Germany ,but this had now been dropped from the fluorite models , at least certainly in all places apart from Germany itself.
At this time of writing , the newer Zeiss fluorite binos are only available in the size of 42mm , but in three separate magnifications of 7x , 8x and 10x.
Being a recent, and very impressed purchaser of the Zeiss FL *T* diascope( for daytime terrestrial use)I've gone out of my way to find out as much as I can about these new Zeiss binoculars.
Two recent purchasers of these new fluorite models are of the opinion that they represent THE best binos they have ever looked through -- including all the top end offerings from Leica , Swarovski and Nikon.
Another new owner of then has commented on less than perfect "edge performance".
Given that these are Extra Wide field models, and given my observations with the diascope and IT's wide - field zoom eyepiece, the latter comment does not surprise me overmuch , although it is disputed by the other two owners.
I have it on good authority that by 2005 there could be additional fluorite models available in 56mm , presumably in 10x and 12x , but possibly also in 14x or 15x.
I also have it on VERY good authority that these new fluorite models are indeed very different animals from either of the preceeding VICTORY models ,and I know for a fact that at least one "prominent optics author" has had much input into it's design.
I hope this helps clear up the situation , although to be honest , I really wish that the MANUFACTURERS themselves would make a point of letting their potential customers know what is REALLY going on instead of leaving it to the realms of grapevine rumouring and networking.
Regards , Kenny.

After having just taken a second look at Barlow Pepin's review, I note there is a mistake on the TFOV specs listed for the Zeiss 10 x 40.
It states 7.4 degrees ( 330 feet at 1000 yards )
330 feet at 1000 yards equates only to 6.3 degrees.

Thanks Kenny. That clears things up a lot. Im sorely tempted by the 7x42 model for hand held day time terrestrial use. The higher power models that you state that are due out next year sound VERY interesting for Astronmical use. Im not sure if the Leica models in the review have the new High Lux coating? Apparently these new coatings rerally make a difference to the brightness/contrast.
Thanks Kenny Steve.

According to the above review it just states the P40 coating, nothing is mentioned of the new High Lux improvement. So I would presume the present day Ultravids are a major improvement on the above reviewed model. Steve.
