A Brother-in-law is asking about a pair of Garrett 11X70s. I'd like to advise him, but I also would like to show him what objects seen in binoculars of various sizes and magnifications can see.
Anyone know of a simulator online I can direct him to?
Regards,
Jerry

For daylight viewing there's a simulator on Leica's website: http://www.leica-camera.us/nature_observation/ultravid_binoculars/ultravid_50_hd/ Scroll down until you see the image; you can select 1x, 8x, 10x, 12x Selecting another binocular would allow finding 7x and 15x as well.
There's nothing like this for astronomical use that I know of.

I'm not sure if Phil Harrington's software shows circles with TFOV/AFOV for different powers/aperture, but you could look at downloading it from his website. TUBA (Touring the Universe through Binoculars Atlas) is free.

TUBA will plot 10, 7, 5, and 3 degree circles and Telrad circles, 4, 2, and 1/2 degree centered on a chosen object.

Ack, to bad TUBA is pc only!! It looks cool from the webpage.
Here's a partial simulation of some Messier objects with a 11X 80 compared with some telescopes.

I have been trying to construct a Field of View indicator in The Sky 6 for my 16 x 70 and soon to have 20 x 110. It is not that easy as you have to create a special goemetry in one of the menus sort of like you do with a Telrad. I am not sure if I have it licked yet. If anyone knows exactly how to do this I would love to hear about it.

I've got Starry Night and while it's easy to create a field of view indicator, when trying to simulate what is actually seen in the binoculars is unrealistic. The images have too much detail. Without some manipulation in photoshop.
