Hi alls,
undoubtely, M42 is a jewel in the skies. Although there are probably trillions of photos outthere, Iīd like you to show "my" latest M42: Bigger: M42
Itīs a composite of three shots. One of them is an older one. So one can see 8 instead of 4 spikes around brighter stars. The vane was positioned at a different position.
An 8"/f6 Newtonian was used, exposure time was 3 * 35 minutes on Kodak Royal 200.
And a single shot with a slightly wider field is here:
Single shot M42
Hope you enjoy this shots.

Wow, great detail! Kodak Royal seems decent in red. Is it possible to see an unprocessed version?
I tried M42 yesterday with the new Fuji Provia 400X. Unfortunately I did not have the time to try the older emulsion on the same night. It would be an interesting comparison.

Thank you all for your comments!
Boris: Itīs not easy to show a "raw" from a negativ. Following photo is very likely to a print, made from a single negative M42 original :
Colors and contrast are not as strong as above.

Yes, Iīm interested to see it then.

Is this Kodak Royal 200 a slide film or a print film?

Excellent Ralf! The colors are nice and you've captured the outer loop without burning out the brighter regions. I will have to see if "Royal 200" is available in the states. Again, very nice.
Astrobobo, I'm trying the new Fujichrome 400X again as well. I have a 120 roll coming tomorrow. Looking forward to comparing results.

Thankīs a lot! To avoid an outburned center, Iīve reduced the white-point preferences in vuescan software. Itīs a quiet good tool!
Ken,
itīs a print film. But the old, red-sensitive emulsion is not longer available. Newer ones detect not enough red, similar to unmodded DSLRs.

Hi Tom,
many thanks to you! Itīs a homemade German Mount. Its both axles are 60mm, made of steel, driven by a stepper and a 100 teeth wormwheel (modul 1.5).
Here is a photo:
Mount
It took one year to built...
