I experimented with piggybacking again last weekend, and finally finshed up a roll of e100vs.
I frantically thumbed through the slides in the store, hoping to find a few that looked like stars, instead of parallel lines, when a rich, red spot caught my eye!
the stars were not in focus, tracking was off, but what nebulae did I catch?
I scanned the slide and found M45. Could this be the California Nebulae? No, this was far too big. And where did all the light come from?
Did this film pick up something no other film could have?
Then I remembered what it was: The cigarette nebuale.

Yes, and the whisperous tobacco gas cloud too! 
Now to some real analysis.. Was your camera stationary? If not, did you have correct polar alignment?

I mounted it to my Gem without the telescope. I thought the weight was too much, so I let it go for a ride for about 15 minutes unguided with a 28mm lens. I stopped the exposure when I realized my cigarette was infront of the scope.
I polar aligned the best I could with the pier. There is no Azimuth adjustment, I have to pick the pier up and move it!
The film was e100vs, the only thing I could find locally.
I did try to guide it later on theat night, when Orion was lower in the sky. It seemed to have better balance that way.
The following shot was with a 135mm lens @ f/4 for 30 minutes guided.
The focuser is plastic, and I suspect it slipped.
