Well I've waited patiently all summer (no cable TV) and heard about the History Channel's series "The Universe". They finally shipped the DVD set and I got mine about a week ago.
I'm quite pleased with the series. There are 4 DVDs in the set ($45US) [History Channel website]. There are 14 subjects, DVD run times 1x141 min. + 3x188 min.
The series follows a different sequence than say Expanding Universe, or Hyperspace which is refreshing. The graphics, photos, videos, and interviews are top notch and the scientists narrating the subjects are a mix of known and new personalities.
I really like the programs and will have to watch each one a few times to get everything out of them which is why I prefer owning the DVDs. Anyway, the price is quite good and I'd recommend the set to anyone that enjoys scientific exploration.
note: you can order by phone if your trust in the web is flagging.

Hi, Tom;
Thanks for your mini-review. I spotted the History Channel "The Universe" DVD box at my nearby store yesterday, and decided to buy it, sight unseen. I haven't watched any of it yet, nor did I catch it when it aired live, but your comments encourage me to do so.
But not tonight. The sky here is actually clear, and promises to be for two or three nights, which is most unusual for us here on the Northwest Coast in November.
Of course, there's a very bright moon, but we can't have everything.
