Zoom questions...
      #2006566 - 11/24/07 04:06 PM

Have been told that the Celestron and Zhumell 8-24mm zooms do NOT have threads for filters. Can anyone here confirm that?

What about the Proxima zoom?

And what's the relative size of that one vs. the "standard" Vixen/Orion/TV zoom?

And is TV still the only 8-24mm zoom with a click-stop feature?

I'm looking a 2nd, inexpensive zoom, but would like it to have threads!

No. The Hyperion 8-24mm zoom has clickstops and takes filters. It's a bit more expensive now than the TV zoom (price went up on the Hyperion and price went down on the TV due to the sale), but it's an exceptionally fine zoom eyepiece that will outperform all these others with a wider field and may be worth considering stretching for...

This would be for an Astroscan, so I'm interested in something inexpensive and light-- and something that I wouldn't mind if it fell out of the scope!

How heavy is the Hyperion vs. the Vixen/Orion/TV ones?

Of course, maybe I should get the Hyperion for my dobs and use my venerable Vixen on the 'Scan!
