I am in the do not buy category. I got the $69 20x80 Zhumells and they were so out of collimation they were unusable. Fortuntatly, the return policy was good so I returned them and got some Celestron Ultima DXs. Much happier now.

Well how are they? mgoat... I liked the 20x100 Zhumell enough to buy the the 20x80's for my son, they'll be here in a couple days,I'll get back.
Just got back from a week in Yuma AZ, used the new Z's every day during our flight testing program, due to some technical requirements for testing the aircraft we had to have 'eyes on' during all test runs.
Having used them during the day extensively now and getting some side by side action with another cheap pair (my Barska Xtrail 20x80's at home), my impression is that they are pretty much identical..big surprise, I know.
For daylight use in the desert, they are a bit of a light bucket, I realize your eyes stop down but it wasn't enough, luckily they had enough eye relief to use sunglasses with them.
Both the B's and Z's are collimated properly as far as I can tell. The Z's focus slightly closer to an actual star point than the B's, but the B's have slightly less 'ghosting' off of bright objects like venus.
The focus action on both is smooth and reasonable, and while it's sharp enough to enjoy the view, especially for the money, neither pair will go actually go 'tack sharp' as any of my three scopes will.
Both have identical contrast when used on Comet Holmes. Both appear to have the same limiting magnitude when looking at a randomly chosen batch of faint stars in Cassiopeia. I should have paid attention to the actual field of view, but didn't think to check that.
In short, both pairs work well enough that as long as you get a good pair, I think they're a bargain.

The coatings on my Zhumell 25 x 100's are excellant and are blue.
on my zhumell 25x100s the coatings are green on the objectives and eyepieces, don't know about the prisms yet. john
Could you do me a favor and look at the coatings on your 25x100mm Zhumells, Just want to know how even the coating looks. The 20x80's are fine , the last 20 percent gets a little fuzzy, I didn't really notice that until I really paid attention to it,the second set is just about exactly the same (my brother bought a pair also). One more thing John....These are not top of the line binos , Just in case you haven't heard this before.lol He looked through them , after seeing the detail on some leaves high in the trees about 150 yards away he said he wanted one, he's easy?? As much as he likes the outdoors I'm surprised he didn't already have a larger bino, These cheap bino's allowed the introduction to large apperarure binos

I have an older pair of Zhumells 100s. I have referenced them in an old 1/07 post. I describe the coatings in a comparison with a Nikon SE, Stellarvue 20x, and a Orion little Giant 15x. In my understanding the Zhumells are multicoated on the outside glass. I don't know inside. When I look through the eye pieces, I see a blue reflection in among the other refections. That seems to indicate that the prisims have single coatings. This is from a 2004 model. Old post

I always thought if your binoculars where multicoated they would look to have a greenish look. Fully coated would be blue looking.

I think that Multicoated look greenish, or purpleish, multi colored.(red hues in there) Single coated look blueish, or deeper blueish like purple. Magnesium fluoride. Many of the educated like to correct us to say that Multicoated can have many different colors. The word "Fully" refers to reaching all the glass surfaces, not to the composition of the coating.

I'd say many thanks should go to EdZ for giving us a crash course in Binoculars 101. He has made a valiant attempt and used his spare time to say "Buyer beware". I've learned over the years that if something seems too good to be true, about 99% of the time,it is. IMO failing to listen and then to take his advice is a mistake.

Coatings:
Coating color depends on the substance or substances being deposited.
Blue may be mag fluoride deposited at too low a temp.
Fully multi-coated means all GLASS-to-AIR surfaces are coated with multiple layers, usually = to 1/4 Lambda.
Cheers,
Bill

What's up with those crazy orange coatings on the super cheap binos at the sporting goods outfits? Looks like something that is supposed to look cool...but they reflect so much light you can hardly see into the interior of the barrel! Boy, that's some thinking there.
