Now wouldn't a Flight Simulator for Mars be wonderful?! It wouldn't even have to be actual airplane speed (that would be too slow), but how amazing would it be to fly through these features as you see them in these illustrations or in computer simulations on TV?

Well, ORBITER can do that in certain small parts of the planet, but otherwise, I can "generate" flights through the canyon system using the software VISTAPRO (which was also used to generate the pictures I am posting). My favorite flight is "2 Minutes in Valles Marineris", which takes you diving down into Aurorae Chaos and flying at low level all the way through the main canyon system to a high final vantage point above Noctis Labyrinthus is just over two minutes time. Here is a still that might represent a future "flight" down Valles Marineris from a certain spacecraft that fans of the TV series BABYLON 5 might recognize (a Thunderbolt Starfury). Interestingly enough, there is an "add-on" for Orbiter that allows you to actually fly the Thunderbolt! Clear skies to you.
