But the CPC is an Alt-Az monted scope. The only time I say field rotation issues was when I first looked at M33 when it was DIRECTLY at the zenith. There I could see live on the monitor the circular star trails in only 7 seconds. So I waited 2 hours and tried M33 again. Here is what I saw in 7 seconds. If the sky was not so washed out with humidity and Christmas lights, I could have tried longer exposures. I can't wait to get to Chiefland in a month:

Jack Huerkamp

Jack, that is sweet! This captures exactly what M33 looks like (to me) on my monitor using my ED100Sf... at 56 seconds...

It looks exactly like this!!! amazing

none of my pictures of the monitor show this...

your combo of aperture and speed, have me lusting after same... I can only imaging how great it really looks "live" on the monitor (from which you separately did this capture!)...

clear enough skies

The HyperStar is f/1.8 and provides about a 3/4 degree diagonal FOV on the 11".

So Jack, HyperStar on front of the 11", MallinCam into the HyperStar. No other focal reducers?

I can see this is going to cost me

Patrick,

Yep. Remove the secondary from the CPC 1100 and store it in the supplied case. Screw the MallinCam Color HYPER PLUS onto the T to C adapter and screw the adapter onto the HyperStar transfer lens. Screw the assembly onto the corrector plate adapter. Attach power and video cables. Install the dewcap. Focus and observe.

Due to the 3/4 degree field of view provided by the f/1.8 system with MallinCam, every GoTo placed the target on the chip - usually in the center 1/3rd of the FOV.

OK...you guys are makin' me crazy!
I'm still not convinced any of us have found a truly successful method of capturing and displaying images.

As we note with every posting "this image does not show the sharpness, clarity, detail etc. of the actual on-screen image...etc." - AND IT'S TRUE! We need a breakthrough of some sort that will 'grab' EXACTLY what we are seeing on the screen.
I am now going to commit a heresy that will probably get me yelled at, BUT....I've found an image of Stephan's Qunitet that looks PRECISELY how it appears in my 28" with a 14" interation in the Mallincam Hyper Color....the only thing missing is that last little thingee - COLOR. So, I guess you can say that the attached image is INFERIOR to what is being seen on the monitor screen.
Thought it might be of interest to those of you (like me) who want to REALLY go after "deep fuzzies:

Mike

Well here is M42 without tracking. It was my first light with the Mallincam, and without tracking it was even hard to focus.

Single frame, no processing.

Nice,

Feels pretty good, though, doesn't it, Neil?

That is about what I would have expected w/o tracking; with your scope I think you are running above 150X with the MCHP, so things do move pretty quick, eh?

Now that I've had my first success with my RTP (visual only), I can't wait for the next clear night to check out my 10" with MCHP - I even just cleared out another "pad" of the 10" of snow we just got yesterday, so that I can setup the Dob close enough to the observatory!

Did you catch any other targets last night, Neil?

clear enough skies

Yea Dave! I had a good run last night. I did a short first light report under the First Light MallinCam HYPER PLUS COLOR post. All in all the objects (with the MFR-3 and 15mm of spacers) didn't move that fast from side to side. I'd say it stayed on the screen for about a minute before I had to adjust.

You skies look pretty good for tomorow night!

Here is an updated image to the one of the Running man Nebula I grabbed the first night I tried out the 11" CPC HyperStar. This is a single 56 second, unprocessed single frame taken with a MallinCam Color HYPER PLUS.

The frame grabber I was using introduced some distortion in the stars and the colors in the frame grab are redder than that on the monitor. I will be tring a different frame grabber at Chiefland Astronomy Village in two weeks.
