Thanks Craig! You guys over there at NSN inspired me to get the lunt, and I am having a ball with it. Next step is broadcasting. Unfortunately, only on weekends as my schedule just got changed to day shift. I don't mind watching you all broadcast when I am supposed to be working though

Gain was probably at 4....exposure...probably 2 minutes, possibly three.

Hello All!

After a 4 month hiatus due to weather, I was able to get out Monday and Tuesday night for some Mallincamming. Unfortunately during that 4 month slumber, the camera decided to take upon itself to load solar settings (don't as me why), which took me over an hour to figure out what was wrong with my images. After correcting that issue (and struggling with some pointing accuracy issues due to my rushing to align the mount), I was able to get a couple decent integrations of M51 and m82. The M51 image was AGC 0, 11 minutes, APC H5, V6. The M82 image was AGC 0, 7 minutes, APC H5, V6. Both using Astronomik UHC filter. Both objects were directly over Indianapolis, IN, definitely a white zone. With that, I'm pleased with the results.

I don't normally do any 'processing' of my Mallincam images except to maybe adjust contrast/brightness a bit. And I only save a few images (for demonstration purposes) because I don't consider Mallincamming to be astro-imaging. For me it is simply an observational aid.

The images I actually DO save are nothing more that simple P/S, hand-held, digital camera shots of my monitor screen. As such they are subject to camera-shake, off axis images, poor exposure (you get the idea). And they almost always manage to capture the pixels of the monitor screen itself!

I was encouraged to try and 'smooth' out the screen pixelation and I must say that, for a first effort, I'm encouraged. I simply REFUSE to do long exposures, multiple images and stacking...but smoothing may be helpful in presenting the images in a manner that is closer to what is actually seen on the monitor...but at the expense of some fine detail. I'll have to work on that.
Anyway...see what you think. The "smoothed" image is first. I don't now how to get more than one image on a single post (or if it's even possible).
The 'raw', unprocessed image is next.

M-82 with a 28" f/3.6 Starstructure, working at f/1.9.
28 sec. iteration with Orion Skyglow Imaging filter. The wind was kicking up a bit as you can tell by the distorted star images.

OK...here's the unprocessed image. Same image as the first only not 'smoothed'.
Comments welcomed!
