My gosh Bob, that is an incredible sight! I haven't had any experience with my gear yet; how would the AT12IN compare with the same subject?

Thanks John The AT12IN has super optics, but with planets its only F4, so even with a 2x barlow,it would be at F8.So it would be small, but it would be good to try.I would expect more color and a clearer view, but smaller.

AT8IN + Panasonic GH2 + LPF
128 seconds ISO 640 Single shot out of camera JPG. This is exactly what it looks like on the cameras LCD and the TVs live view.
This is the limit of exposure for my area. I tried an exposure at ISO 1250 and the background just brightens with the object.

Finally the sky stabilized enough between the storms and cold fronts to allow for a decent capture of Mars. This is a two minute avi file stacked using RegiStax. The avi was captured with my modified Samsung SCB-2000 Security Video Camera mounted on the 12 inch Goto Dob. The raster lines are present as expected for video, however Mars is clearly defined.

This is the single frame snapshot without any processing. The difference between this and what i saw on my direct feed monitor was very different. The direct feed looked closer to the above processed image.

Another single shot exposure from my GH2. This is 2 minutes 8 seconds at ISO 160 so it doesn't quite show as much. What it does show looks nice though.

The GH2 is an outstanding camera. However, it definitely has some drawbacks for AP. For instance all of my exposures are limited to 2 minutes and 8 seconds. In a very light polluted area that severely limits what I can see even with filters.
It also requires you to do an in camera dark frame to get the lowest noise levels. That means that each exposure takes twice as long. However, it dramatically reduces noise at all ISO values.
It also will not automatically take a succession of 2+ minute pictures. You must press the button every time you want it to take a new 2+ minute picture. It will take 1 minute or less exposures automatically in succession without you being there to hit the button.
What it does do better than any other camera is shoot and display the highest quality 1080p video in real-time that money can buy. It is known as the bench mark for 1080p video and it costs 1/10th to 1/20th of its competition.
It also can be used as a medium sized 4/3” chip camera or an ultra small 1280x720 cropped chip camera. That basically extends your lens 3.9x without any light loss at all.
I am putting together a video on how to get the most out of this camera and basically any other interchangeable lens camera. It will have a heavy emphasis on real-time and near real-time viewing because I don’t care for post processing as much.
Here is a single shot out of the camera jpg from last night. This is a completely untouched image. It looks exactly like this when I hook the camera to a TV via HDMI @ 1080p.

Especially the Solar System stuff

Well, it's great to be back in action and broadcasting again after 5 months of equipment problems. Here are a few images from this weeks broadcasts.
All are untouched unprocessed screen grabs from Mallincam Xtreme in an SN10 on an EQ6 mount:
First one is Abell 1367, a lovely condensed Galaxy Cluster in Leo:
