Pillars Of Creation (M-16)
Single image...cropped but no processing.
28" f/3.6 with MCHP at 14-second integration.
This is a digital photo of the monitor screen so the usual disclaimers apply: Focusing issue, camera shake issue (hand held), moire and pixellation from the monitor screen etc.
Actual on-screen image 10X better!
Sit back about 3 - 4 feet from your monitor and you'll get a better idea.

M-57
28" f/3.6 with MCHP at 28-second integration.
Same disclaimers apply! Although I took this digital photo of the monitor screen at a higher resolution than the "Pillars".

Mike,
Its like deja vu. I remember looking at M57 in your scope last May while at Chiefland and later posting some comments about not only seeing 2 stars in the center of the ring and 2 stars on the ring - but seeing detail in the hole. Your digital camera grab of your monitor is very reminiscent of that night. I have to get back to CAV and do some more observing with your scope and MallinCam. You have learned how to tweak them both to provide the ultimate live images.

Mike,
I forgot to ask which monitor were you photographing for the posted image - the 10.4" Marshall? Also was the digital camera hand held?

Hi Jack...yes it was the 10.4" Marshall fed via S-Video. The Panasonic digital camera was tripod mounted (for a change!). Luck has a lot to do with geting good images. But it IS an almost zen-like balance between the Mallincam settings, monitor settings and digital camera settings that make the magic happen. You can't "teach" it or predetermine the settings ahead of time, you just have to work with it enough that you develop a "feel". Even then...it's hit and miss!

Nice images there Mike!! Long shutter speeds on a tripod will definitely help eliminate the horizontal banding and noise when shooting a tv screen or monitor.

Hey
Here are some of the hard and easy targets from last weeks observing. Not showpieces, but some are hard targets from my location and with my modest scope.
Cocoon Galaxy, NGC4485-4490

I was getting ready for tomorrows show, so I thought I'd grab a couple of frames from ol' Sparky.
Not that great, but after this I got my polar done so tomorrow night should be better. The conditions tonight had 20mph winds as well so...
