Hey Bill! I am still around a litle bit. It has been either cloudy or raining now for the last few weeks (or longer) as I am sure you have noticed! (you live 10 minutes from me) lol AND you know the life of a wedding photographer in the spring is HARD CORE! I was hoping to get some broadcast time in last night or tonight, but of course it's raining, AGAIN! We went out to the west desert camping last weekend and I was able to get a few hours worth of mallincamming before the clouds rolled in. I didnt have time to record anything because I was in awe just watching! The mallincam really is a whole new camera at a dark site! I got my hyperstar conversion kit this morning and now I am ACHING to get it all put together and take the C14 out there.

That seems to be a popular scope. I thought Dave's setup on the CGE was great. Did you take your CGE or did you use the CG-5. It seems the really fast scopes are becoming more popular, not bigger apertures. Is the big C14 shooting at F1.9 yet? Did you take any images of your scope at Lookout Pass?

Jon, forgot to ask, did you use the MC focal reducer with the scope? What F ratio would that give you?

Hey Bill, sorry, no pictures this time, I was too busy setting up and taking down in the dark! I took the trusty old cg-5 and used the mallincam without any rings or focal reducers. The sn-8 is just about a perfect FOV for the 8mm mallincam, although if I had more time before the clouds rolled in I would have tried different things. I dont have the complete hyperstar setup yet, but one day maybe soon! Next time I go out I will give you a call, this was a fast last minute trip.

Hi Jon - good to see ya back; I've kinda been somewhat offline as well - mostly

Did get one great night for the 5th grade outreach (on the other thread)... haven't done any captures of bcasts yet...

I'm glad to hear that the MCHP works well on your SN8 w/o the MFR3, etc... I did notice a LOT of skyglow on mine operating down around f1.85 by my calculations with the MFR3 and 15mm of spacers... so next chance I get, I'm going to try w/o all that - i.e. native at f4...

The FOV though, is killer - multiple galaxies in Virgo all at the same time is tasty...

Next time I'll at least take a picture of the monitor!

clear enough skies (sometime soon please!)

Winter .. well yes in your part of the world. I can't wait to get my CPC1100 with Hyperstar and MallinCam COLOR HYPER to try to duplicate your shots with your scope.

Hey guys, last night I had a late one! I was able to get several objects with my hyperstar/fastar setup and C14. Here is my first attempt! I REALLY softened it up and stretched it, but other than that, this is a single frame, no stacking shot of the triangulum galaxy. I am going to have fun with this late nighter this week! I wanted to add, that I think the bloating, wierd shapes and color fringing is a combination of the fastar with this large chip, my cheap filter and the fastar isnt collimatable. I actually took a big gamble buying this fastar lens and I wasnt sure it was going to work at all with my cameras, but I am more than happy with the results. My actual hyperstar is on order and I think that will make a big difference, biggest improvements will be, collimatible and I can use my good 2" filters with it and it's made for these bigger chips.

Mallincam, 28 seconds, Orion SkyGlow filter, C14, f/2, 675mm.

Un-Sharpened. It got really noisy from stretching I am guessing.

Thanks Neil! I have alot of others from last night I want to post as well. I finally figured out my wiring problem at about 12:30 am, 2:30 your time! (bad outlet in the line, it was old and somebody removed the fins and I didnt notice) I went out and broadcasted for 4 hours, and not a soul was awake to come join me! My favorites were the veil, bubble and crescent. My new found aperture really likes those objects! I just cant get enough! Tonight is raining, so maybe it will give me some time to process some of the images from last night. Anyone going live tonight?

Jon,

Here is another Hyperstar image of M33. It is a single, 56 second image obtained with my CPC1100 with the original Hyperstar (F/1.8), from my magnitude 4 back yard. It is a little on the red side. This was from last January and was during first light with the MallinCam-Hyperstar setup.

Very nice Jack, it looks like I really have something to look forward to! Alot more evenly illuminated and fringing isnt nearly as bad. My strange color shift is because of the color of the skyglow filter. I think I will try M33 tonight without a filter and see what happens. ALTHOUGH, without the filter, my max exposure is about 7 to 14 seconds in my light poluted location. I live in a red/orange border zone.

Ok I'm still stuck on globs. This is another M3. This was taken with the Mallincam connected the 12" LX200R for a quick first light of the scope. Once I get the scope collimated I'll have to try a non-globby.

Well here some from my first night, please excuss the stars trails these were shot from my CPC and with the thin clouds over head, I had to run the MCHP at 56sec for the most part.
