Very nice M-42... To get results like that on your first shot shows how easy it is to use the MallinCam. Do you have any Galaxy shots? I'm thinking of getting either a Meade 8" or 10" SN for use at my house with the MallinCam, so I'd like to see some images from an 8" or 10" SN.

Here is the one galaxy shot I have, it's a faint galaxy and I spent no time processing the image, this is a single frame captured right from the monitor. It's NGC 2683.

I should also mention that my shots are taken 10 minutes from Center City Philadelphia in very light polluted skies.

Thanks Brian,
That too is a very good image to show what the 8" Meade SN can do at a light polluted site, with a very faint galaxy, using a MallinCam single Image. Nice dark back ground too.

Here is a curiosity from last night. Its a 3 satellite pass through Orion during a 12 second exposure (might have been 6 sec).

They're probably geostationary satellites and dependant on your latitude - in northern hemisphere they're located a few degrees south of the celestial equator like your shot - nice here's a selection from awhile back before astrovideo with the scope drive 'off' eg static cam

Thanks for posting it Brad

For a more detailed look at ngc 891 check out Greg's version (#2062289). I wish that I could get enough photons from objects like this to do without the .3 fr. Greg's 30 inch bucket collects 14 times more photons than my 8in and the lighted parking lot across the street from my site limits the gain that I can use.

Tonight Comet 8P/Tuttle passed near M33. I used my MallinCam Color HYPER PLUS and a Quantary 70 to 210 zoom lens to grab this image of the pair - plus a passing airplane. This is a single 56 second exposure grabbed using an AverTV Cardbus PC Card. The lens was set to 210mm at f/5.6.

Latest from WSO.

MCHP on Vixen ED100Sf with MRF3 (5 and 10 spacers) at approx f6. Single integration 56 seconds. M33 on 19" Proton monitor.

1/15 second on Nikon DSLR Shutter priority, handheld.

Usual caveat: picture is way better on monitors than photographed!

Next up: my first M42. 7 second integration. Same setup. This transmited very nicely via wireless into the house on the 42" HDTV....

This view is distorted because I didn't have a straight on shot of the monitor using the camera.

A very nice way to end 2007, which saw the construction of WSO, the acquisition of MCHP and 31T5, 22T4, and Ethos, and most importantly, more viewing in the last 5 months, than in my LIFE beforehand!

Last night I finally go a chance to try out the HyperStar on my CPC 1100. This is a single 7 second frame MallinCam Color HYPER PLUS image grabbed to my laptop. The Running Man Nebula was just rising in the southeast and only about 25 degrees up when I observed it. As others have related, the live, on-screen view on the Watec-35 was far superior to that shown in the laptop snapshot.

Jack, that is SWEET...

looks like "gumby" himself just a standing there!

I really love the ease/flexibility of this camera...

of course your 11" (280mm) trumps my 100mm any day of the week...

can you say - "EQ mounted serious aperture lust/envy"

Sure, I knew you could!

clear enough skies to y'all

notwithstanding my CSC which IS clear dark blue tonight... it is 4F and 20Mph winds - not even WSO walls can protect me from THAT!

But the CPC is an Alt-Az monted scope. The only time I say field rotation issues was when I first looked at M33 when it was DIRECTLY at the zenith. There I could see live on the monitor the circular star trails in only 7 seconds. So I waited 2 hours and tried M33 again. Here is what I saw in 7 seconds. If the sky was not so washed out with humidity and Christmas lights, I could have tried longer exposures. I can't wait to get to Chiefland in a month:
