Fantastic shots Gav -- I'd lov to see how Rock helped to tweak them -- do you have them posted on another site?
Thanks very much. I'm pleased with them although with practice and knowledge I think I can do better.
I just added Rock's modifications to my photo album in the Mallincam Yahoo group. Rock told me he used Photoshop and Neat Image to correct the red.

Thanks Kent. I hope to do better, especially with Centaurus A as it rises in the sky later this year.

Randy,
I can see the reason for not allowing stacked and processed images involving histogram stretching, curve stretching, etc. in the gallery. However, the use of an astronomical video camera is very different from that of a dedicated CCD imager. For the latter, post-data acquisition is the norm. When using an astronomical video camera live, adjustments are made to the output video stream at the monitor to achieve the best brightness, contrast, color, and tint. I see "tweaking" of the above parameters on a grabbed frame to make it close to the mnitor's rendition far different than image processing. So long as "additional tweaaking" is not performed, I see no reason not to allow frames adjusted for brightness, contrast, color and contrast only to be posted.

I have to agree with Jack on this one. This is after all, what we do to the live images that are streamed using programs like Amcap.

I just updated my Yahoo album with new images that have the red turned down in the camera and required no Photoshop etc.
http://tech.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/mallincam/photos/browse/c8ef
I've also attached a different example (NGC 4038) with no post capture tweaking, of course.

Couldn't resist.
Here's Centaurus A from tonight with the red setting in the camera turned down one notch. Also, my earlier images were stretched in scale as I was using the wrong setting in the video converter.

When you say from tonight, does this mean that you were broadcasting? If you were, let us know here so we can catch it! I work on the computer all day for my job, and it would not have been a problem for me to slide by and catch some southern views!

I wasn't but I will at some stage soon, I promise! We're just coming out of 4 months of rain and cloud so I'm doing a bit of catch up on my observing. Plus, I had to adjust the mount's pointing which took a little while.

Let me get this traight.....
This is a single exposure image captured on video..by way of a video camera?
Or..this is a composite of several minutes of video, stacked by the camera system, and then captured as a single image?
I surely can't imagin this being a single 30 second or less exposure captured on video....
How, does your camera work exactly?

Yes, this is a single unprocessed image. The MallinCam is a hyper sensitive camera that has integration time of 2 sec, 7 sec, 14sec, 28sec, and 56sec. When you set it on any of these times you will see a final image after that time, and it will keep refreshing at that time until you change the setting. They really are amazing cameras!
Hope this helps, but you have to see then live, or on sky channels to really get the jist of them.

This last image is a single Hyper image? Of say.. 28sec of gathered photons?
In short, the camera/software..stacks or combines only 28sec(this example), of data into that awesome image?
Where can I get one, and how much are they
Rob(do you need a special monitor)?
