Sorry a bit OT, but just like to show where the technology is leading us to...
Alright, it's weekend. So just sit back and enjoy ...
With recent GOTO and video-assisted astronomy, I fell asleep in my couch...
My scope is a GOTO, my video display unit is my 40" HDTV. There is a miniature 2" Dob model besides me which is wireless-connected to a "magic" gadget box.
I move the mini Dob, I see different part of nightsky on my TV.
There are two cables going to the yard. Ahh... one must be for serial GOTO control, while the other, must be a video cable going to my TV set. I can turn just 3 knobs on my magic-gadget. The first one is for Brightness, the second one is for Contrast. There is no focus adjust, since the system is so smart. The third one is the greatest. It has the continuous adjustment of the zoom ratio, covering a wide range of FoV. Any other knobs or Menu on TV is outlawed.
===================================
Oh no, my scope in the yard is stolen, how come I am still seeing the beautiful image on my TV!!!
===================================
(Hint: it's a VR box.)
Version 2 of the magic gadget has 10 additional buttons: 1) power on 2) add more cloud (too boring without the cloud ) 3) add more UFOs 4) add more jumbojets 5) transport me to the southen hemisphere, Scotty 6) winter is too cold, I want summer 7) Harley_every_day TM 8) play the close-encounter-of-the-third-kind music 9) show first 3 seconds of the Big-Bang 10) power off
Clear Skies and Enjoy the Weekend!

See end of EPs. The end is near. When we get a snapshot type camera that can give full color in a human eye daynamic range and go as deep or deeper than current cameras and provide a digital diplay in Hi Def. You will net even need tracking just push and shoot.

I don't see it as the "end". I see it as a "new beginning"...
Are symphonies or live jazz or other live music "dead" or "at the end", just because we had:
LPs>CDs>MP3s? now playable on the smallest of small devices?
Nope.
Same thing here. There's always gonna be folks (like me!) who still want to use MkI Eyeball approach. Plus, just holding/touching/using high quality optics - well... those of you who have done so know what I mean
I like the visual of a "dob-stick" driving things remotely, though! But I want one bigger than 2"!
