OK - I've never seen one of these before - have you? Cute little bugger. Looks like 50mm or so with built-in binoviewers and electric zoom! Zeika Optical Co. and everything's marked "Japan".

Which end do you look in? Is that some kind of range finder? Where did you find it?

Stacy

What the heck is that???? Any idea what the origional purpose was??? A 50mm binoviewed scope??? Why not just 50mm binos??? I HAVE to wonder what the design theory was behind that little thing.

John - that's COOL. That's REALLY cool. (Ok, so I'm an optics nerd...) Thanks for sharing! Please keep us updated if you find out any further information on that little guy.

I was making one of my infrequent eBay tours and tripped over it. I'm enough of a gadget freak to know I had to have it.

One looks through it like binoculars. It has motorized zoom from 2.5X to 8X and there's an addon lens included which takes it to 12X. I have never, ever seen anything quite like it. It's very heavy for its size (no plastic) so I doubt it's very useful - but a cool find for the collection nonetheless (I think it is, anyway).

I think Stacy's got it. it looks like an optical range finder. Is there some kind of a distance scale anywhere on it or in it? Does it appear to have any kind of internal split screen similar to the central circle in a camera?

Hi, Edz.

Nope. The lettering around the objective is "Zeika power zoom binocular" and the lettering at the EP end states only "field 3 degrees 35 minutes at 8X; 2.5 to 8 X 35". There's a button marked 8X and one marked 2.5X. The attachment that shifts it to 4X through 12X has a larger objective; maybe 40mm. No marked reticules of any kind.

I could be going out on a limb here, but isn't that one of those that the police use (or at least use to use) on stakeouts?

Hi, Norvin.

That might be a lead. I'll ask the older cops next time I'm over there.
