I am trying to type up some of my lecture notes to put on my website but am having trouble finding a language to express mathematical formulae properly.
At the moment I am using a javascript interpreter which changes a latex input to mathML? to display it on the screen. I dont think this works in anything other than firefox. Short of using images I do not know what else to use. You can see one of the articles here http://www.uk-astronomy.com/astro2/keplers_laws.htm
Also Comments on layout or general page design would be useful.

Alex, using IE6, the illustrations display beautifully, but you're right about the equations -- it displays the code itself rather than the intended output.
I do like the layout, and I like the writing style.
I'd just make one small technical correction: prior to 1605, most people thought the orbits of planets around the Earth were circular...with epicycles.
Kepler was revolutionary in two ways: 1. In adopting the Copernican sun-centered cosmos well before it was a commonly accepted approach, and 2. Assigning elliptical orbits.
We usually remember the second point, but the first wasn't exactly mainstream, either!

MathML can be edited and displayed by the Amaya editor and web browser. Google for MathML Browsers.

Can browsers read LaTeX itself then I could just have frames with a page full of latex formulae linked in.

Dont know if this helps. Lyx is a Latex 'word proccessor' like front end. A small utility called tth will then convert the resulting .tex file to html. Never used it for math though.

Ive fiddled around with it a bit so IE likes it a little more you can easily download a plugin for IE which allows you to view mathml and i have made the pages compliant with MathML standards assuming the conversion script creates valid output(which it probably doesnt but ey?) Im still going to recommend firefox but also direct viewers to the plugin.
On a side note: Can you guys trying this page for me It doesnt seem to load on my IE but works fine in firefox and opera. Might be some little formatting bug with the div tags or summin.
