Hi alls,
the night from Saturday to Sunday was clear. The first after about 6 weeks.
My target was M1, the famous Crab, a relict of a supernova:
Two shots were combined in PS. Photographed with Kodak Royal 200 and a 12"/f5.3 Newton.
Enjoy! Comments are welcome!

Ralf - that is one the best film shots of M1 I have seen. The center is not overexposed, and the film you used caught the dynamic colors of this nebula. Fantastic job!!!
What were your exposures?

Hi Peter,
thank you a lot for your compliment!
Sorry, Iīve forgotten exposure times: 45 and 30 minutes.
The scans were made with vuescan and a flatbed. With this software one can adjust the white point to avoid overexposing. Quiet a good tool in my opinion.

Great detail in the nebula!
I use Vuescan, too, but sometimes it overexposes bright parts regardless of the white point setting

Stunning. Royal Gold print film - who wodda thunk? Did you scan in the negs or from prints? M1 is my prime target IF this weather ever clears. I have a stack of slides but no slide scanner. Cost a bundle to have them done. If this print film performs on other ojects, I just might change to it and scan with my flatbed.

Hi "Neb...",
first of all: thanks!
Royal 200: The film I used, is an old one, expiring date 07/2004! Emulsions with a later exipring date was substituted by ones with lower red sensitivity. Today there are actually no print films with good red response as I know!
To catch red h-alpha-nebulas I would recommend Kodak E 200 or Fuji Provia.
Perhaps you can get some Royals via ebay. An alternative should be Ferrania Solaris. Itīs an italian product.
scans: I scanned the negativs, not the prints by a flatbed. Itīs an HP 4010. It works quiet well.

Great shot! Do you keep the film frozen until you are ready to use it?

Thank you all! Iīm very pleased with so much positive feedback!
Tommy: This film was stored in the fridge. But several months before that it was in my freezer for about 2-3 years.
At the moment several other Royals and Fujis in my freezer waiting to be awakened...
