Orion Vista 10 x 50 £189 Orion Ultraview 10 x 50 £149
Does anyone have any experience of these??
Basically I need a decent pair of binos, and I believe 10 x 50's are the way to go. Main requirements are decent quality and easy to handle as I wont be using a mount.

GreenImp,
I really like my Orion Vistas (10X50). However, if I could have started out with a pair of Little Giant 15X70's instead, I would heavily consider these as well. I really dig both pairs of Orions. Both offer nice bright images, good edge performance, and rock solid construction. The Vistas are especially well put together. I find the higher magnification views through the LG II's a bit more pleasing for easily found astro objects.
I don't own any of the Ultraview series, but for the marginal price difference between the Vistas and these, I would recommend the Vistas overall.

I can not vouch for the vista 10x50 binos specfically, I can tell you that the vista 7x50 are quite nice. Excellent optics and a rugged design.

I haven't checked the Vista and Ultra View recently. I have one of the older UltraView 8x42s with the fold down eyecups. It has very nice optics. Lots of eye relief. Very wide field. Sharp, good sized sweet spot. They have held up well.
The "leather" on the Vista is not as very rugged, IMHO. The Vista has nice optics but the apparent and true field are a little narrow. If I remember correctly the eye relief was a little less than the Ultraview.

I own and use the 10x50 Ultraview. I had a loaner an did use for a while an 8x42 Vista.
The Orion Vista 8x42 has a published eye relief of 18mm. I measured it actual at 11mm.
The Orion Ultraview 10x50 has a published eye relief of 22mm. I measured this one actual at 14mm.
Both placed actual eye relief almost exactly at the distance from the outraised eye cup to the lens.
Both clipped the view for me by 5% to 10% with my normal mode of viewing with glasses on.
The Orion Vista I used had a very loose focuser that moved every time I pressed my eyes up to the lenses. I would not expect this in every sample.
The Orion Vista had twice as much diopter range as the Ultraview. Estimating the Ultraview could adjust for 3 to 4 diopters and the Vista could adjust for 7 diopters. makes the Vista a better choice for people who view without glasses but who need a lot of correction.
Both of the samples I used had excellent coatings.
The Vista had much better internal grooved baffling.
Image Sharpness extended out a little further in the Vista.
I have read published that the Orion Vista is actually a rebadged Carton Alderblick.
