Weight, ASGT and Side by Side question new
      #2087904 - 01/01/08 04:03 PM

I would like to mount my C8 with binoviewer and Tak FS78 side by side on my ASGT mount. I will likely buy a ADM and Ken Dauzat system. I think the mount will handle the weight. Will it? Thanks

Bob,

For visual the mount is fine, for imaging you're going to be pushing the mount's limits. With the side by side setup you will have to pay more attention to the balance of the whole package. Since the C8 will be substantially heavier than the refractor you'll need to balance everything side to side. Then you can go ahead and balance the setup with the main counterweight. By the way you do have a second 11lb counterweight?

If it matters I vote for the ADM over Ken's side by side product. Better saddles and overall fit and finish for a higher price.

My avatar shows a C6 and an 80mm refractor with the ADM side by side mounting on a CG-5A. The only substantial change that I've made to the setup is that I now have 3 point rings for the refractor.

Hi Bob,

Although I switched to an EM-200, it worked fine on my "old" ASGT mount. Just balance carefully.

The only thing you need to watch out for are the plastic covers of the mount. When slewing close to Polaris and vicinity, they may hit the mount and break. I had this problem and one of the electric circuits boards inside the cover got damaged.

Cheers,

Mark and Eddy, I thought it would work, but just wanted to check before buying the saddle. I was planning on getting the ADM. I have purchased from Ken before and wanted to try out ADM.

I will balance very carefully. We normally only balance in 2 dimensions, now I have to learn in 3 dimensions.
