News About ETX's Best Friend
      #2090534 - 01/02/08 05:11 PM

Most regular visitors to this forum are probably familiar with Mike Weasner's Mighty EXT site, and if you're not you should get to know it. For the sheer love of this telescope so many of us enjoy, he's put together the single greatest body of information about the ETX anywhere. It's a non-commercial site he's been running for years and folks occasionally make contributions to help him keep it going. Anyway, if you have ever been glad it was there you should check it out now.

Apart from all the regular stuff it has the news that someone recently stole most of his astronomical gear as he was preparing to move to Arizona. Since we're not supposed to use these forums to solicit anything, I just thought I'd point you to his great site and pass along that news. I left a little something there to brighten his year a bit and I thought some of you might want to as well.

Happy New Year to all at CN,
dwv

That's a darn shame. I hate to see that happen, especially to good guys like Mike. Thieves seem to prey on people who are in the midst of a move (they have their ways of finding out), and we've always been reminded to take special care during our moves. I'm sure he was insured, but it is a shame.

Mike's theft is sad news and poor reflection on society - he is always ready to help with any ETX query posted to him and remarkably he usually responds same day with all the answers. With his recent move he probably welcomes a break from 'ETX work' for awhile

Yea, they went for the really EXPENSIVE stuff. I've noticed that these morons never steal anything they could actually sell. It always a scope so modified, etc, they can't sell it b/c someone will recognize it so fast, and can't pawn b/c they can track them. SO... these idiots throw the stolen stuff in a ditch, somehwere... sad for Mike for sure, but real sad for society, b/c like in this area, we have more kids that just don't care doing that type stuff versus a thief making a quick $.
Guess b/c I can hate a thief, but not a kid for being raised (or not raised) correctly.
sorry up too early with WAY TOO MUCH coffee

Meade should give him a replacement for free - he's earned it many times over.

Let's email Meade to let them know our opinion
