I'm going to jump in head first and get a bigger scope. This little ETX has spurred a strong interest and aperture fever. I'm not in a hurry and need a little help pricing it. Here is what I have at the moment:
ETX-125 with both an Autostar 497 (just got it) and a #884 tripod. I have some nice EPs I'll be keeping so it will only come with the 26mm meade super plossl. It is UHTC... The OTA has about a 3/4" scratch in the blue paint. The optics appear to be perfect -- I can't see any scractches on the glass. It has the standard 8x25 right angle finder on it. The #884 tripod has some surface rust on the under side of the legs. The tripod has a soft case but the scope I do not have the original boxes/case for as it doesn't travel. It's not huge, but it is noticeable. The tripod works fine. I have both the #497 (just got it) and the standard electronic controller.
I'm not in a hurry to sell it as I need to order or buy another scope but I was hoping to get about $650 for the setup as listed. Is this fair?

You can do a search on the S&S thread or on Astromart to see what similar equipment has sold for in the past.

I used to own one years ago. If its in good shape then a fair price for used equipment is typically %60- %70 of the cost of a new one. Thats what I think anyway.

I'd think $650 would be a good starting point. If you don't get any takers then drop to $590...

Thanks for the input, folks. I apologize to mods for posting in the swap forum. I read the guidelines but didn't see anything specific. I suspected I might run afoul so thanks for moving it.

Not sure what a fair price is. The longer I am in this hobby the more I see people seem to fall into two camps, 1 are folks that buy and sell and the other seem to collect, I seem to have fallen into the latter. I now have nine scopes and I do not think I want to part with any of them. Wife keeps asking me when are you gonna sell some of this stuff?

I would search astromart if you are a member there or know someone who is. The database is easy to search for the entirety of astromart's existence and has had many transactions so the data is good.

I am going to replace this with something that has 8" optics. I want to see more "stuff" -- and I want to see it with more clarity. The orion Nebula is awesome through my ETX-125 with my Hyperion. The Andromeda, however, is just a blur. I'm hoping to just get an overall improvement.
I would ideally like something with an Equatorial mount so I have the option of astrophotography. My two ideal scopes would be either an LXD75 SC8 or a Celestron C8S-GT XLT. They are priced about the same and have about the same features. I've considered a Celestron Nexstar 8SE as well as a used LX90 as possibilities but then I do have to give up any real hope of astrophotography.
I prefer the compactness of the SCTs since space is very much a premium in my household.

There are folks using sct's for photo's, but they are not ideal. A sn8 my be a good alternative. Very fast, excellent imaging scope as well as a good visual performer. I have two sn6's that get a lot of use.

Just bought a ETX80 for X-Mas so I would have a GOTO and now I'm deciding how much for it AND my Meade 8" Starfinder Dob to buy the Celestron C11-SGT (XLT).
No info... just feel the pain... i think it's clinically called ADDICTION !

Whoah... I C11 SGT. Man, that's a cannon. I don't have the room. I'm looking for a C8SGT but I may have found a solid deal on a C9.25SGT. If that works out, I'm golden. If not, I've got a couple of other ideas on scopes. I think a goto SCT should be no more than 9-10 inches because they get bulky and heavy for any mount. Beyond that, Dobs and Lightbridges seem to make more sense as you can go really really big with small $$$ and small space.
One day, I'll buy a really big light bridge just for grins...
