Is my PST sick...?
      #2092426 - 01/03/08 11:39 AM

Purchased a H-a PST from that other online aftermarket equipment website a few weeks ago.
Today, I looked it over carefully for the first time.
When I uncapped the Primary, I noted that the red coating was not uniform, instead appearing speckled, and perhaps uneven. Is this typical? Or do I have a problem?

Thanks!

That does not sound good. The PST should have a light translucent blue coating on the objective. Is your PST doublestacked with a PSM-40 filter? The PSM-40 has a red coating.

Here's what sick PST objective looks like(see attachment) The new PST objective, with the translucent blue coating does not seem to have this problem anymore.

I have since confirmed with Meade that this is a rust problem.

They are fixing PST's so affected in or out of warranty for free, plus a $15 reshipping fee. There is a 3 week turnaround time at present.
A public announcement on this subject will appear soon in the print media.
A call to Coronado/Meade will get the ball rolling for others with a similar problem.

Thanks!
