M-45 - Finally happy with this one
      #2097179 - 01/04/08 11:07 PM Attachment (113 downloads)

Having shot this object too many times to think about and never being happy with it I decided on one more try.

This is the best 90 subs out of 115. The new HD rings and baffled dewshield from Mark at Teton can't get here fast enough. The setup is suffering from a bad flexure issue right now and one of my neighbors has decided he doesn't need to shut off his outside lights anymore

I have to say that this is one of the hardest objects to process. My geuss is the wide range of brightness levels and subtle colors make it a real PITA

Jerry: Thanks ! This scope just keeps getting better. The hard part is trying to convince the wife that I need a 10" version of it.

Greg: You may be right. I switched monitors and I am not completely happy with this one. I'm going to swap back and see. When I finished it up last night I was actually worried as the R channel was showing about 20 points lower than the G&B.

Fox: Absolutely, I'll post a single sub as well as the stack before processing if that helps.

Mark: It's funny you say that. When I showed my wife she asked what it was, when I told her she said "Wow, That doesn't look at all like the last shots you took of it" Lol.

Bobby, Wow, you are going at some pace now, this is amazing, going so deep, you brought out some of the pink that really no one else goes deep enough for. Go to Robert Gendler's site, and you will see the red there too. This one should go on the bedroom wall, Andy

I think there is some red btw in the actual target but I hear its notoriusly hard to capture...in fact, i'm not even sure what its supposed to look like as i've never seen it hehe.
Yes, would be neat to get the stack as well...I am always trying to practice processing as I am a relative newb to AP.....I've tried many times to get the wisps and have gotten a bit but not much detail...I have no guider and the best I can get is 3 minutes of exposure in prime focus without trailing in my best efforts in N alignment. I bought a lit reticule yesterday and have practiced drift aligning on Pete's tutorial so i'll give that a try ASAP...from my pix...it does indeed look like 3 minutes is a good target.

Obiwan,
That's one of the better M45's I've seen. If you're going to post a RAW. Could you show the curves data as well?

Thanks in advance!

Incredible image! Unbelieveable nebulosity! Even that tiny galaxy shows up really well.

ETA: I agree there is supposed to be some red in the merope nebula

Spectacular M45 image. I don't ever recall seeing so much nebulosity.

I think there's definitely some red in the M45 nebulosity, down near the bottom as this shot is oriented. You can still see it in the re-adjusted image.

Pablo,

Thanks! Right now I have a hacked together setup to guide with really. The MN I bought came with the "Regular" clamshell setup. For holding just the scope it's OK for visual and borderline for imaging. Becuase of the lack of being able to mount a top plate between the rings I wound up using a single screw and JB weld to mount a Vixen PB camera mount to the existing rings. To this the 66 is mounted via the "Shoe" it comes with. For now it gets the job done but I do notice issues with flex I did not have before this.

I ordered the HD ring setup from Mark at Teton which is basically a set of Parallax rings joined on the top and bottom by thick aluminum plates. This will get bolted to a Losmandy DUPS and on top a set of ADM guide rings with get bolted to that. Should solve the flex issue. I also picked up the ITE Metal baffled dewshield for the scope which is coming with thhe rings. A DSIPro sits in the 66 and is controlled via PHD. The next step is hopefully when Craig S. releases the next PHD with support for dithering in combination with Nebulosity,

Now that there is a driver for CCDSoft for the DSI I may give that a try also.

Super image, spectacular nebulosity. Would pull back on the red curve just a bit.
