Due to good reviews, and not owning any quality eyepieces, I just ordered the Hyperion 17 for use with both of my ETXs. I debated between it and the 13, hope I didn't make a mistake there... I had a $10 off offer from telescopes.com, so I got it for only $89, which seems a very good deal.

I love my Hyperions... I think you will be very pleased. What are you putting it in?

I've got an ETX-125 and an ETX-60, not sure what mags it'll give me in the two scopes, I'll have to look that up. Do you have the adjusting rings to use with your 24? I may order one or both, but I'm wondering what the downsides are to using the rings, and how simple it is to switch them on and off the lens.

The 24, for some reason, hasn't gotten here yet. On the 125, that 8-24 zoom is pretty darn big. I suspect it may be a bit "big" for your 60, but I'm not one to advise. My 125 is front heavy enough that the 8-24 zoom helps balance it out. If the ETX60 is the same, it may be alright.
Keep in mind that the difference between 20 and 24 on the eyepiece is negligible. I don't use the 24 at all. If I'm going to zoom out that far, I just grab my 24 super plossl and pop it in. I grabbed a 24 for that very reason.

These size eyepieces cause my ETX-70 grief. Unsuccessful alignments and when aligned without by inserting one I start to get tracking inaccuracy.

Do you think it's the weight? If so, my ETX-60 will likely suffer from the issue as well. However, I think the ETX-125 is nose heavy, and I'm hoping the much heavier eyepiece may actually help the balance of the scope.

To be honest when I had the 125 I didn't have any of these larger type eyepieces on hand. Now with my ETX-70 I do have larger eyepieces available and I'd say it is the weight of the eyepiece causing the issues with my scope. My recently departed 15mm TV or 20mm Antares"plossl" worked with this scope like a champ. I don't think it's any sort of a stretch to say these little plastic telescopes were not designed with 1 pound eyepieces in mind.

Another question is whether you are running on the internal batteries. They suck. After switching to an external power supply, my slews are smoooooooth. I haven't seen any slewing issues with my 125 and the 8-24 zoom but I would imagine that is because it is quite front heavy to begin with. If the ETX60/70/90 aren't front heavy, I suspect attaching a grenade to the back end is going to wreak all sorts of havoc on the goto alignments...

It sounds like the new Hyperion will be just for the 125 then...

No slewing issues here either with the 8-24 Hyperion zoom on my ETX-90, though it does churn a bit. I usually find the object with a smaller lens, then put on the zoom. I'm using the internal batteries, and would surely benefit from a power tank.
The only real issue that I have had was that the big zoom sat down so low on the EP holder, I was having trouble tightening the screw to hold it steady. I ended up simply cutting the bottom out of a black 1.25 EP cap, and then cutting it down to about a 1/4 inch circle. Slipped it on the zoom all the way up. The lens now rides a quarter inch higher making it easy to tighten the screw.
