My RA circle always seems a few degrees off after when trying to find another object after calibrating on a known star.I wonder if this is because my polar alignment is off. I don't have the polar scope, and just try to roughly align looking through the hole in the mount. Will a polar scope improve my setting circle accuracy? I really want to use the circles!

I'd recommend the GM-8 polar alignment scope. It works very well - great alignment every time in only a few minutes.
FWIW - there are polar aligment scopes out there that are absolutely worthless.

Agreed. I have one for mine ( GM-8 w/gemini). It was extremely easiy to install. I made a dimmer/battery box for the illuminator as it is too bright out of the box. I can't speak for everyone else, but mine did not require any initial adjustment. I have dead-on GOTO's, excellent tracking, and easy setup no matter where I am. I also have a CG5-GT and a polar scope for it. By comparison, the polar scope for the CG5 is useless, hard to align and more importantly, keep aligned.
