M44 - The Beehive Cluster in Cancer
      #2098804 - 01/05/08 03:29 PM Attachment (52 downloads)

Lens: Canon EF 75-300 III at 100mm
Filter: IDAS LPS-II
Exposures: 36x30sec, ISO800, saved as RAW
Mount: LXD75, unguided
Processing: DeepSky Stacker, Digital Photo Professional, Photoshop

I’ve always found this to be a cluster with multiple personalities. It’s a beautiful naked-eye object under very dark skies and from my light polluted back yard it’s a favorite with binoculars or with one of my old 60mm refractors, but it just doesn’t do well with moderate magnifications and higher. However, if you explore behind the Beehive with a camera you’ll find a couple of faint little galaxies hiding there. I’ll definitely be paying this object a visit later this year with a CCD for another look.

Good widefield and with 30 sec shots. Hows the IDAS filter for you?

So far I've very impressed with the IDAS LPS. As I'd hoped it does a much better job preserving the color and gives a tad higher signal than my older Orion broadband light pollution filter. I'm looking foreward to testing it on my SN6.
