Outside Maintenance
      #2099267 - 01/05/08 06:43 PM

Learned Colleagues,
I recently built a concrete pier and have mounted my beloved NJP on it permanently. I cover it every night with a Tele Gizmo scope guard and am working on something to keep the elements off a little better. I am concerned with humidity (It's raining even now) I have had nights where the dew gathered as if I had turned the hose on it and I have gone out with WD40 and hit the joints being mindful of the electronics and the gears as I worry that the oil might damage the lubricant from the manufacturer. Other than that what else should I do? I worry about the heat. If I left it uncovered for any length of time would that be harmful? I leave the car out in the heat and it gets very hot but the electronics are not effected. I'm just being paranoid I'm sure, but any tips to keep my investment running would be helpful.

Thanks in advance...

Here is a solution I came up with for extended set ups. All you need to do is put a 60-100w lamp in to keep the moisture at bay. I came up with the idea so I wouldn't have to break down the mount should inclement weather roll in while on dark site visits.

Agreed....Brilliant! Looks like I'm off to HD tomorrow. (Like I need an excuse!)

Thanks!

Chaz,

I did the same thing when my LX200R was set up outside with a Telegizmos 365 cover on it. Worked a treat.

I shall be doing the same when I finally get a pier for MY NJP.

Let us know how it works for you.
