I started shooting this right at midnight on New Year's Eve, so you can say it is my first image for 2008. It was a decent night, although some thin, high clouds drifted in and out a few times during the exposure run, which lasted until 4:00 AM. I finally finished processing it on Sat, Jan 5th, 2008. Check it out:
 Rosette Nebula on Jan 1, 2008. 66x180 sec @ ISO 1600. TV-85 at F/5.6, Hutech Canon 350XT, IDAS-LPS, Atlas EQ-G w/EQMOD.
Thanks for looking. Hope ya'll like it.

Thanks, Mark.
I also had a chance to shoot a few subs of the Orion Nebula complex on this night. It was just a quickie 17 subs to see how well the TV-85 would handle it. It didn't come out too bad, even with the small number of subs. But, no short exposures for the core, so it is burnt out:

Joe, thanks!
I'm still using the WO unit at the moment. I am focusing until the corners are sharp with DSLRFocus instead of the center and it seems to work out better. Still some residual distortion, but it is minimal.

Yes, the guiding is with ASCOM Pulse-guiding via EQMOD. I am using one of the newer beta EQMOD releases with the extra pulse-guide gain controls and graph indicators. That seems to be working really well, too.

Both are superior images Mike!
The M42 image is astounding for only 50 minutes total exposure time.

Excellent Rosette image. It combines that 3D look in the center with vivid red color at the outer edge.

Bob, thanks! And thanks to everyone who commented.
I was killing time shooting M42. I wanted the Rosette instead. The background would be better with lots and lots more time. There's so much nebulosity in that area that would smooth out with more exposure. Just gotta find the time to go back and shoot it one day.
I have a version where I selected the background and did some aggressive noise reduction. Maybe a bit too much, but with only 17 subs I didn't have much choice:

It helps, but not like tons of exposure would.
