Crab Nebula new
      #2090853 - 01/02/08 07:00 PM Attachment (46 downloads)

I've made this sketch tonight. It was freezing a few degrees, it was a bit moistures, but finally clear. The seeing wasn't to good.

The Crab Nebula was very faint, but still pretty good visible. In my telescope nothing more than a fuzzy ball.

Date: January 2, 2008
Location: Valkenburg, Holland
Telescope: Dobson 8"
Magnification: 40x

The sketch is made with a HB and 2H pencil.

Great job, Demelza. Are you scanning in your sketches? You last few have a darker background now compared to your others. I really like it.

Yes, I finally have a scanner. It works much better than taking photographs of the sketches.
I scan the original sketch, than I make the drawing negative in Paint.

Nice that you've noticed!

The night of 1-1-08 I had my best view ever of M1 despite tenps in the 30s and fierce winds (20+ mph) !!

Demelza,

An excellent observation of the Crab Nebula (M1) in Taurus. Skies must be dark and steady seeing conditions must exist in order to detect detail within this planetary nebula. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Thank you!
In you're sketch is a lot more detail. Yesterday I saw only a fuzzy ball. I will sketch this object again in better conditions. I'm curious if I will see more dan just a faint spot.

Very nice sketch, Demelza!

I was observing too yesterday. I found the transparency not so good at my site. The nelm was about 4.9.

Clear skies!

Great sketch Demelza! You've caught the hazy, almost transparent appearance very well. Nicely rendered!
