Hi all,

I was able to add some subs to my B33 image this week. I deleted all the earlier subs that were shot with the moon present. Here's what I wound up with. 3H 49 minutes exposure.

Orion ED80 and WO StageII 0.8 FF/FR, CGE mount, Hap modified 350XT with Baader UHC-S and IR/UV cut filters, Exposure 12-29-07 20x300 second 800 iso subs ST-4 guided 1-3-08 43x180 second 1600 iso subs unguided, Bortle 7 skies

Large version 800k

Thanks for looking

Bob,

Big difference with the new subs. I hope you don't mind, I went in a balanced the color a bit better (Something I am having a hard time doing on my images hence the practice). The black point was clipped a bit but there is a lot of info there for the amount and time of subs.

I do have a question. I see a bunch of guys shooting at ISO 1600 and was curious as to why? From what I have read you lose dynamic range and add noise. The thing I see is some shots are real nice at 1600 (Yours) but others I have seen look pretty nasty. Any thoughts?

Beautiful Bob! I compared it to your last and I definately like this version better.

Stargazer your reporcess looks very nice as well. As for shooting at ISO 1600... I usually do so once the temperatures gets below 0C(32F). Otherwise it's ISO 800.

Thanks Bobby and Kerry,

Bobby, I like what you did with the image. Sometimes, in an effort to preserve faint detail, I lose track of the overall picture

1600 iso really wasn't the optimum setting for the second set of subs. The dynamic range did suffer a bit and the star image size was larger. The only reason I opted for it this time is that the CGE can track perfectly unguided for 180 seconds. I didn't feel that 180 second 800 iso subs would add signicantly to the image and I just didn't have it in me that night to set up the ST-4 for 300 sec subs

Bob,

I suffer the same problem with processing Lol.

That makes sense with the guiding.

Excellent H+flame image. The faint outer red nebulosity shows up well in this shot. Getting rid of the shots taken with the moon seems to have helped. (I also gave up shooting with the moon out, even when using narrowband H-alpha filters.)
