I've been looking for a canon 350d rear sensor filter but the only source I can find is Alpine Astro and they are out of them. Does anyone know of another source? Otherwise I could buy a 2" uv/ir cut filter for my ed80 or 8"sct.
Would I need another filter for astrophotography with regular camera lenses? Also is there a budget canon lens around 200mm that is acceptable for astro?

Alpine Astro is pretty much the only source. Call or email them - they get new shipments in quite regularly.
You won't need any other filter, save for perhaps a light pollution suppression filter if you're shooting from suburbia.
Cheap lenses generally give cheap results - coma, chromatic abberation, the list goes on and on...

I guess I'll keep trying to reach them. I was thinking my chances of getting the filter were getting slim.
If by some chance I cannot get the sensor filter from Alpine Astro and choose to make a clear filter from Edmund glass, and buy a 2"uv/ir filter for prime focus. Would I need some kind of uv/ir filter for canon lenses?

Steve:
Check this post and see OPTION 2.
You will need a UV/IR filter if you replace the OE one with clear glass.
