Rare MIZAR 80/1200mm model KAISER
      #2102503 - 01/07/08 05:02 AM Attachment (129 downloads)

Last week I found a very rare MIZAR 80/1200mm model KAISER in showroom condition.Look at that focuser ! Big handwheel with buttery smooth motion.I new these telescopes only from some pictures in astronomy magazines dated in the seventies. This one was the first one I saw for sale second hand in 30 years!! Back then it was very expensive and about 15% more in price compared with a Polarex/Unitron 3" on equatorial mount so not many were sold in those days.Build quality is even better then a Polarex/Unitron.
The optics are also very good with almost no CA.Same high quality optics as the MIZAR 68/1000 I have. The mount is somewhat bigger as a 3" Polarex/Unitron mount and very sturdy.Never have seen one for sale on Astromart or on CN so these scopes must also be very rare in the US.

javago
I am surprised as your KAISER.
I know your KAISER's long and big mount, for the first time.
Your shaft of axis is so long.
Phot is My KAISER in Japan. I have understood this only, until today.
Thank you.

WOW!

What an interesting scope. I love the big focuser wheel.

That mount looks very beefy and Unitronish.

Very unique! Unitron mounts have always fascinated me. The Kaiser mount has the same if not more attractiveness and I suspect its very functional. Thanks for the pictures.

Hi javago
Kaizer was the top model of MIZAR for a long .
It's famous telescope in japan.
But,Production seems to have been unexpectedly little.
It is a telescope also in Japan popular among the manias.

Hi Galakuma,

Thanks for your answer.I can see why it is popular in Japan.
It looks very good and the optics are first class!
The shop who sold this scope in the Netherlands is still in business and I have asked the son of the owner who is now in command to ask his father if he can remember how many they sold.It is also possible that there was only one for showroom display and they never sold any in the Netherlands for they were to expensive. This shop started selling Mizar telescopes in 1973 so I suspect this is probably a 1973 model ( different mount in your 1974 picture )

WOW am I ever drooling. That's a beautiful scope! I have one of their 68/1000 scopes and I can attest to their optical quality. But the mount on that one with the cool focuser.... just plain sweet......enjoy!

Today I did get the asked info about the MIZAR KAISER sold by the telescope shop. When they started their business in 1973 the owner of the shop imported 100 MIZAR telescopes in one shipment! No big deal these days but 35 years ago a big financial risk. Most of that scopes were 50,60 and 68mm refractors with names such as CARINA,ACE,CORONA and NEW APOLLO.Top of the line was the KAISER refractor and the NOBUO CX 150 catadioptric Newton.Only 10 KAISER refractors were amongst them.It took 8 years to sell them all !!
After the last one was sold no other KAISER scopes were ordered because at that time they allready were selling other 80/1200mm telescopes ( VIXEN SATURN 8-L ) with a much lower price tag. After 1985 they stopped selling MIZAR telescopes.

Good stuff and great information. Thanks for doing the detective work. This is invaluable to Mizar collectors since there is so little out there (that is not in Japanese) about Mizar scopes.

It also seems that these scopes were only exported to Europe??? I've only seen these acquired there and Japan. I wonder why?

Hi all,

The MIZAR 80/1200 KAISER is for sale !! If you must have a very rare MIZAR in your collection this is the moment you have been waiting for !! It is in almost mint condition
-- 9.5 out of 10 -- and comes with eyepieces,diagonal,solar
screen etc . Wood storage case for OTA and tripod.

Optics are superb ( almost no detectable CA )and flawless ( no scratches, fungus etc ).Performance is just outstanding and ever so good as my green lens Polarex telescopes.
Price will be in the same range as a mint Polarex 3" EQ.

Let me know if you want this scope and make an offer.

Thanks
