Mars Obs.<>1.04.08 new

Hello,

I had good seeing here yesterday morning accompanied by very cold temps (12°F/-11°C) for this observation. I scrutinized the Red Planet for more than an hour with different filters before sketching and almost lost the seeing advantage as Mars dropped in altitude.

Of interest was the small but prominent North Polar Cap (NPC) and the dark strip of Utopia with the little point of Casius on the following side--there was little sign of a hood or clouds obscuring these features. At the opposite pole, a bluish haze appeared to cover much of the polar region and extended broadly along most of the following (morning) limb. Hellas is probably lost in that haze.

This was my first opportunity to view Mars in quite a while and I felt the lack of practice. If the weather cooperates, I hope to try again soon while Mars is still at a decent angular size.

Best to all and good luck with your own Mars observations.

T5,

Thank you, sir. I hope to get another opportunity to sketch Mars while it is still a decent size but who knows? Your weather tends to head in my direction. Hope you get some clear skies soon.

Best,
