Just got a pair of Miyauchi 7 x 50s and the objectives show two different colors!?! Both objectives are predominantely green, one more so then the other. When tilted a reddish/purple color is visible in one objective and not the other. When holding the binos about a foot away and looking at the eyepieces, one has a blue tinge and the other a red tinge. Should this be? The binos seem to be performing well during the day, at night and inside.

Umm... have you eliminated all external variables that may influence this phenomena like lighting - like different flourescent lights, clouds passing [if oudoors], your eyes, different angles, the lens are clean and not smeared in any way, does any on else see this variation ?
Coatings as far as I am aware 'should' be even and have the same hues / colors to both the lens.
Others ?

At different angles in sunlight, incandescent lighting, and an LED flashlight it is all the same. I'll get a 2nd opinion and see if I can get a photo of it. Thanx

I have seen this phenomenon with several Carl Zeiss Jena glasses. The process of lens coating is such that the specified thickness of the anti reflection layer cannot always be achieved. Among other parameters, this layer thickness can depend on where the lenses are placed inside the vacuum coating oven. For that reason, in Jena they sorted the finally coated lenses manually according to their color to pair up glass of roughly the same color.
It has no influence on performance - the total transmission of both lenses differ by just a fraction of a percent. But there is a cosmetic aspect - you don't want one objective shining blue and the other one in green, of course.
Regards, Holger

Thanx guys! Bigbinoculars.com told me this is normal in a Miyauchi and is not something to worry about. I tried to photograph the color variation in both objectives at once, but couldn't capture anything worth posting. If I can get some better shots, I'll post.
