Cleaning my sensor....
      #2104076 - 01/07/08 08:33 PM

It's really time I face the music and consider cleaning my sensor. It seems to have attracted quite a few dust motes. question is, can I do it in safety without buying one of those specialized brushes that run over a hundred dollars?Should I bite the bullet and invest in a set, or can I do it myself?

Thanks,

Tom

Absolutely!! Go to you local camera/photo retailer. You can invest about $6 in a Canon sensor cleaning swab or a PEC Pad (I think it's a size #2, swab) and $20 in a 2oz. bottle of Eclipse or some other brand cleaning solution. A couple of drops on the swab and a single pass over the chip (the swab is the exact size) and you're done. Let it dry and take a few flats and repeat with a new swab as needed. Or you can spend about $50 and have most camera outlets do it "professionally" I have done both and come up with the same results. This was my experience and just my humble........

Have you tried a rocket blower? I'm personally a sissy when it comes to touching my sensor (considering the potential for YIKES!) but have found that opening the mirror (sensor cleaning mode) and giving it some vigorous rocket blasts is sufficient to remove whatever dust particles have adhered thereto.

P.S., do NOT use canned air to attempt blowing dust off the sensor.

Photographic Solutions Sensor Swab kits are the ticket! You can get them at B&H.
