Well Friends, here is glowing example of a momentary lapse of reason.
I just bought a used Manfrotto action grip ball head 3265G for a monopod (for binoclars). Its an old piece and made a squeeky noise as i moved the head around the socket. On the way back, while at a traffic light...I thought...squeeky? a lil dab of Wd-40 should help...faster than lightning, i reach over to my glove compartment, get out the can of wd-40, squeeze of a few rounds...Voila..Squeekyness gone!,,and then my brain started again.and sure enough..the action is now so smooth that just a little pressure moves the head right downt to horizontal.
SSOO...is there anything I can do to solve the problem ie remove all of wd40? I tried to wipe it ..but no difference..
$55 down the drain, or perhaps some way to salvage? Thanks for your time! Clear Skies/Kumar

Kumar;
I can tell you that Formula 409 cleaner will disolve the WD 40 with time. Soak it for a while and then wipe it clean. Two or three treatments ought to remove the WD 40.
I don't know what you use as a replacement once the WD 40 is gone. Maybe Vasoline?
Hope that helps; Steve Coe

Go to your local auto parts store and pick up a spray can of "Brake Cleaner" or it may be called "Brake and Electric Motor Cleaner". It will take the oil right away and is safe to use on plastic, but you better test it first to be on the safe side. Whatever you do, do not get "carb or throttle body cleaner", that will melt plastic and nylon.

Be sure if you use brake cleaner, or even moreso, electrical cleaner, that you read the directions/cautions on the back of the can because a lot of that stuff will melt plastic quicker than...well...you know.
This comes from first hand experience with fixing trailer brake lights. The electrical cleaner melted the red plastic tail light lens. I ended up taking it to show my Dad (his trailer) in a styrofoam cup. Ah being young and stupid. Live and learn.

That sounds about right, Kenny! That should do the trick, plus when he's done, it'll stop on a dime!

Greetings all,
Thanks to all of your suggestions. I took some absolute ethanol, and gently rubbed it over the head. With time, its taken a lot of it out. Enough for me to be happy!
Thanks once again, Clear Skies/Kumar
