Nikon D3 - anyone tried it yet?
      #2111896 - 01/11/08 01:45 AM

Hi all,

Has anyone tried the Nikon D3 yet? It's low noise at very high ISO capabilities and full frame format seem ideal for astro work.

I have also read that the medium format backs (such as the Phase One P45) excell at long exposures (+ 30 minutes) but they do cost ± $30k - anyone had a go at astro photography with one of these?

Check out the review by Christian Buil (French and English). The conclusion sums it up rather nicely...

Nikon has come up to par with Canon on the noise issue, but still messes up their NEF format so that it is practically useless for astrophotography.

For any serious astrophotography Canon is still the way to go...
