Side-By-Side plate for small copes?
      #2128979 - 01/18/08 12:57 PM

Hi all,

I have a Vixen SP mount, a 90mm maksutov and WO 66SD refractor. I would like to use the Maksutov as a guide scope, and the 66sd for imaging. The best way to do this, maybe is on a dual mounting plate or side by side plate.
Does anyone do something like that? Any ideas of where can I get one?
will this work for my scopes? http://www.firstlightoptics.com/proddetail.php?prod=WOvixendovetail

Regards

Carles

Scopestuff.com, I've ordered many many items from Jim's site. Reasonable and fast. I'm about to order the following item from him shortly. It may be what you need:

http://www.scopestuff.com/ss_dmp6.htm

Send him an email or call, I think he ships to the UK for an extra fee. Could be wrong though.

I think what you posted is for mounting scopes without rings, not a dual plate, but I could be wrong.

Yes. An essential feature, though, is that the side by side adaptor you use can be moved within the mount's saddle to permit achieving balance.

Here's an example.

I like that setup better, actually, especially adding in the guide rings looks nice. Anyone using it here ?

Thanks for the replies.

John C, that looks good, but a bit big, and expensive maybe... But I think that something like this will be the best, due to both of my tubes has dovetail .

Sure do.

I have the ADM side by side setup on my CG5 mount. I also have the Losmandy V series rail and V series rings. For visual work I just use the side by side setup, for imaging I put the V series rail in one of the ADM saddles and setup my 80mm in the rings. Nice and solid and very versatile. The V rail and rings also spend time on my larger CGE mount using a larger variant of the ADM side by side setup.

HERE is the one I use ; a WO dovetail and 2 Berlebach clamps ; I use it once with a 110mm and a 80mm ; there was some room left for even bigger.

I use this Losmandy dovetail system for my side by side needs. It's like the ADM system John directed you to. I like the ADM because it has two securing bolts instead of Losmandy's one. It works however, and is very secure and easy to balance two scopes...

I've got the ADM VSBS and love it. VERY strong and easy to load and unload your scopes. Plus, Andy over at ADM is very personal with customers. Customer service can't be beat.

I bought the Vixen SX large (2575?) plate, and haven't used it yet. I like the ADM plate because I like my entire setup to be without the use of ANY tools.
