DS-10 Meade - Seattle Craigslist

DS-10 Meade

I emailed that seller and he informed me that

"....it is a 10 inch Newtonian. It is Says DS-10 Meade Deep space telescope. That is the only marking it has other then Meade corporation info...."

I think from what I read people said this was a decent scope. Is that correct.

P.S. Man I wish I live in Seattle right now.

They're a beast. The tube doesn't rotate, so there's potential for some very awkward positions!

Most of the awkwardness in eyepiece position can be beaten with a folding chair and a pillow...

The pier is fairly low in height. These use an oversize secondary, and have an f/4.5 primary. The rather odd spider is tricky to properly align. I'm currently rebuilding my OTA into a lighter and better aligned scheme. The OTA as manufactured is about 17-18kg.

Critiques from experts at star parties have been pretty favorable as to the image quality once we get it tweaked properly. It's very nice for picking up fairly faint galaxies, but I've never gotten tremendous planetary performance out of mine. That's part of the reason for my OTA rebuild.

If the mirror coatings are still bright, it's not a bad starting point. Newer 10" dobs from GSO, Orion and Celestron are awfully attractive at their price points, though.

Cheep is beauty-ful...especially on my budget.
