OOPS!!
      #2132607 - 01/20/08 12:40 AM

I get the dummy of the year award for this. I took the PST out to the trunk of my car this afternoon for a quick peek before going to visit a friend. I had just found the warranty paper in the box, and I went outside with a bag of chocolate and I stuffed the warranty underneath the bag of candy. I looked through the scope, and then took the scope carefully and took it back into the house. I guess you know what happened.........I forgot the bag of chocolate and the warranty. It must have ridden on the car for a while, because I can't find it. I did not realize it until late tonight. What do I do? I sure would like to have a warranty in place on this in case of trouble. I feel like such a dumb %&*#!$%*!

Maybe Meade/Coronado can just send you another copy of a warranty to fill out. They state that the warranty must be received within 30 days! The one thing they might have a hang up about is that there was a ship and receive date. The PST warranty that I sent out last week has this contact info:

Tel:949-451-1460
Fax949-451-1460

I think the warranty is only a year now anyways right? If so....I will not worry too hard about it. Plus it is 600.00 vs thousands on other things, so I will not get torn up about it and let it ruin the fun. Thanks for those numbers, I will give them a call.

too bad about the chocolate....

At least it wasn't the PST that you left on the trunk lid!

As for the warranty, I'd bet a quick call to Meade will take care of it. (Well, maybe not so quick but in my experience they do take care of business).

Meanwhile, enjoy your PST!

Jim

Thanks everyone. I have some daylight now and I am going to walk down the road and see what I can find. I can't believe it would have ridden on the back of my Honda Civic for that far, but who knows? I did send a message to MEADE/C. last night, but I will call Monday sometime.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in most states (if not all) a warranty must be honored if proof of purchase is provided. Meade/Coronado may want you to fill it out (and probably to your benefit if a "recall" was necessary) but I don't think they can deny you valid warranty service if you are honestly within warranty period and can prove it.

I think is true that in California at any rate (good old California!), the manufacturer cannot require you to send in a warranty card. YMMV, however - read this NY Times piece .

Doug,

You are right. In KY that is the case also. I have proof of purchase and everything, so I think I am ok. I will still call and let them know the situation (already e-mailed). I appreciate all the info. You all have been really helpful. I can't believe I did something so crazy like that. I got so excited about that Ha view. I love this particular PST. Seems so sharp and contrasty compared to the other two I owned. Ha is always worth a wow factor. I thought about taking it outside today, but it is too cold. I have only the Malta mount right now, but my DMK monochrome imager is fast, and I think I could squeeze a round off with the Sun in the field of view. I did it before with an old Meade LPI. I can't wait to mess aroumd with it.

Greg - relax and enjoy the views through that special PST (and keep the receipt in a safe place!). Sounds like you got a good one. Hope it gives you years of trouble free observing!

Doug

Doug,

I sure will. I put the receipt in the safe and all is well. I am so very ready for a nice day with just a little warmer conditions.

Greg

Doug,

That is an impressive resume of scopes you have there. I am very envious of that GM8 mount. I have been wanting one for my 103 Vixen refractor, and anything else I might get as far as scopes go.

Thanks Greg - I've been working on it for a while. Lots of back and forth on Astromart as well as some new stuff now and then. The GM-8 was a new addition last year, my first GEM. The good news is that they come up often on Astromart. I picked mine up primarily to image the sun with my DMK and PGR cameras - looks like you are on the same trail just a little behind me...

I like your Avatar - I've got one of those as well around same age. That is what its all about!

best,
Doug

Doug,

They are the center of life. I think the wife and I are going to have another one soon. It has been the most fun and loving experience I ever had. I can't wait to share all this stuff with him.
