Hi,
I recently aquired a Celestron giant (2") diagonal along with some other equipment. The diagonal mirror has serious damage to the finish. Is it worth getting it resurfaced, or just purchase a new diagonal? The new ones look like around 145.00.
Thanks,
Stan

Somebody who actually know of what they speak will supply a better answer, but I noticed that Williams Optics sells a dielectric replacement mirror for 2" diagonals, available for $58 at this link--

Presuming that it would fit in your Celestron diagonal and adjust to a precise angle in there, seems a 'no brainer' of having confidence that the mirror is optically sufficient?
Surplus Shed sells a bunch of inexpensive mirrors, some of which seem to have good specs. But one might think the WO 'retail' part might inspire more confidence that the retrofit results would be 'as good as its gonna get'?

Take the mirror out and measure the minor axis (narrow dimension). You can either order a replacement or send it to a coater to be recoated. The latter is probably cheaper.

You most certainly can get it recoated. That will be quite inexpensive. If you don't belong to a local astronomy club - someone there will likely know where you can get the job done - call your local university to see if they have something in their physics/astronomy dept that can do the job. They are extremely helpful here. Keith

Thanks,
I do belong to the local astronomy club and hadn't thought to ask anyone.
