I already posted this on the Cloudy Nights Case & Casses Site but I thought I better post it here also.
I am trying to figure out if I can input MY OWN RA and DEC (as opposed to the telescopes data bank). On my Celestron Goto, all I have to do is go the the RA & DEC mode and enter the coordinates and the telescope slews to the object of my desire. Can this be done with the Orion GoTos? I do not use the telescope's databanks very much for I am mainly interested in the thousand or so double stars and hundreds of variable stars that are NOT listed in the telescopes data banks. Orion's manual isn't the quite clear about this. It says you can save 25 user objects, but I do not want to save just go directly to the slewing after I put in the objects coordinates.
Thank you
Rich

I also mentioned this in the other thread, but you can go into Utilities + Show Position and just slew the scope with the directional buttons until it displays the correct coordinates.

Yes, you can manually enter RA/DEC values as a User Object. I don't have my HC available, but the instructions are in the user manual for the SynScan. I believe you go to the Calogue menu, select User Objects, and pick a number. If there is no object in that catalog position (you can manually enter up to 25), then it will ask you for the coordinates to enter. If you previously entered an object in that slot, it will ask you if you want to edit it, or goto it.
