John
Thank you for your reply. Last night, I had a closer look at the tube when I was running focus in and out. I did not note any droop in the objective cell as it slid out to full focus (geeeezz it sure takes a while to run this in and out ). The version I have of this ETX-60 has a silver tube and it has about 2 inches of travel. Quite clever how they designed this.
Is your model the blue tube version?
Thanks, Mark J.D.

That's right, it had been badly abused but I have as a finder/camera lens now. I may put the objective in a rigid tube with a traditional focuser, we'll see.

John,
I ended up getting another one of these ETX models,, by exchanging one of the other two defectives. Had it out the other night and this one does indeed droop as you said. This one has a noticeably looser fit to it. Seems as though these Wal-Mart 'specials' have a rather wide variance in fit and quality when it comes to the flip mirror assembly and the focuser.
Thanks again, Mark J.D.
