You took that with only a neutral density filter?

I had to look that one up, never heard of an ND filter...

Stephen: The "moon filters" are often referred to as neutral density. The adjustable kind can be turned way down to really darken the surface of a full moon. I'm surprised that Rich's pic was taken only with a n.d. filter. I looks more like through a baader type filter, rather than a neutral density.
Note to Rich, how fast was the exposure? Keith

Hi All,
Yes the photo was taken only with a ND 3.8 filter.
The ND 5.0 filters are for visual but the ND 3.8 are only for photographic as they let much more light pass thru them.

The exposure was...
Canon 30D handheld
1/320 sec
f/25
iso 800
300mm lens w/1.4x tele (420mm)

Rich, nice uniform coverage on the disk. Just to clarify, is that Baader photo-grade film in your filter cell?

Steve,

Yes, that is the "Baader AstroSolar Saftey Film"
Photographic (ND=3.8).
Todays conditions were very poor, so I'm sure with better seeing the exposures will be much quicker. Next time I'll shoot an AVI.
