Here is my first attempt of White Conte on Black paper. [image]C:\Documents and Settings\James\My Documents\My Music\2008_02_03\M45.jpg[/image] M45 on 2/02/2008 3:28UTC 90mm fl500mm thru a 20mm ep for25x scaling down the sketch blured it a bit, with some loss of detail

Jim,
This is a cool sketch of M-45. I recognized it by that neat star chain to the right and below Alcyone and the other bright sisters in the sketch. It is a great deal better than my first sketch with the same media.

Thanks everyone. Just wish the weather would cooperate a little more so i could get more time at the ep. The "Conte" white crayon is fun to work with, but you need to be real careful about draging anything across the sketch. I used 'Artagain' series 400 paper, which has a nice bite to it. I'll be sure to bring the sketches to BEOTS, Erika so you can get a better look and give me some pointers.

Jim, Very interesting and excellent sketch. At first I thought it was a converted photograph to pencil and then reversed (negative). LOL. I learned a new technique from you. thanks! -Stuart

Jim,
An excellent observation of the Pleiades (M45) in Taurus. Your first attempt using White Conte on Black paper is a success. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Thanks , Stuart. It was a lot of fun trying out a new technique. Carlos, thanks, I still have a long way to go. I'm thinking of trying the area of Orion's belt next with binoculars. There is some interesting material there.Glad you all liked it.

Great sketch Jim! The magnitudes and positions are beautifully realized. I like the wavy patterns of the low mag stars. Wonderful drawing!

I like the way you captured the fainter stars in this really nice cluster.
