Very nice cabin/obs combo. Great views too. Are all of my drawings making you nuts?
Thanks Karen! Very beautiful country up there in the GA mountains. Right near the Appalachian Trail too.
David's right. I'm already a little nuts. Actually your drawings are very impressive. It's a good way to picture the possibilities!

Hey Scott, FedEx should be at your house around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with "a little something" for you. Turns out I could manage the whole deposit in rolled coins, hope you don't mind. Oh, and bring a wheel barrow so you can help the driver unload it all. Glad you're back!

That's a big and exciting milestone, Karen! I remember it well... it means its becoming imminent!
Wait'll ya see Scott and gang put it together; its amazing how fast it goes. I presume you are going to wire it up with AC, etc.?
I'm really looking forward to pictures of this build due to its unique nature!
Good luck and keep us updated!

Mike,
you have a scope that costs the same as a garage; isn't that expensive enough?
You live in Alaska, surely logs grow on trees up there

Log cabin style observatory? Too cool. It is real, isn't it? Is it the old style, with bare logs showing on the inside, or new style, completely finished.

Just an update, waiting on the local utility to move the power line off the roof of the garage and then the build can begin. Should be about a week. I HATE WAITING!

It's cloudy, windy and cold down here right now so the wait won't be quite as bad as it would if it was clear and 70 degrees. No snow here but it did snow in Dallas a couple of days ago.

I spent 10 days on the coast of SW Ireland in March a couple of years ago. During that time the temps ranged from 22 to 72 degrees, it rained, snowed, was sunny enough to get burned, windy enough to go sailing and calm enough to do a little fishing. And that was just on the day we got there! Not really but that was what the whole 10 days were like, we had a blast!

More fun with the local utility company, they can't move my service drop to the pole on the other side of the property because it would cross over a tiny area of my neighbors property, the neighbor doesn't care one way or the other but the local utility says no. They will however happily install a new pole for me, 4 feet from the other pole, for $1500.00. It seems that when you own property you also own the air above that property but you can't share it. We'll just have to be creative and work around it. I'm pretty sure we can just kind of scoot it off to the side while we build, there's plenty of slack in it, and just let it "find it's way back" when we're done. It's on the opposite side of where the roof will slide to so it shouldn't interefere with operation of the roof. The tree trimmers will be here over the weekend, the control room/studio is all cleaned out and I'll paint it this weekend as well. The last little bit of stuff in the garage will be out with the trash on Monday and Scott will be here on the 24th. It's almost a reality!

Be VERY VERY careful doing this....
As a matter of fact, I really recomend that you DON'T do this at all.
