      #2220621 - 02/26/08 03:17 PM

Meade has added a page on their website to show how to install the AutoStar Software Suite(and DSI or LPI Imagers)to Work With Windows Vista.

Before it was not possible or extremely hard to get the AutoStar Suite To Work With Windows Vista.

Here Is The Link: MicroSoft Vista

This May Be Old News To Most,But It Was New News To Me.So I Apologize Beforehand If I Am Just Posting Old Information.

Thanks! I've heard about this, but I couldn't find it on Meade's web site. Thanks for the link, I'll give this a try and see what happens.

I've been using my DSI & autostar for months with Vista & it works fine other than every time you start it, its asks are you sure you want to run unwise.exe click ok & it works.

Also right click it & choose properties & run it in XP compatabilty service pack 2 mode.

I just need to work out how to take descent pics.

Plenty of practice i think, not great pics on your first night as the box says but i'm getting there slowly.

Thank You Sincerely for the answer and feedback dunc.ellliott.You have answered a Great Concern of mine.

I am appreciative now that I know I didnt buy an imager that was incompatible with my Operating System.
Again I Must Say Thank You!

I had the same concerns as you, i got my laptop first with Vista then was looking at lpi or nextimage or the orion solar what ever its called and none seemed compatible with Vista.

Then i got the DSI off ebay for not much more that a lpi & posted the same sort of question on the beginning imaging forum as that also was not meant to work on Vista & got lots of help.

WHAT A GREAT SITE THIS IS.

When you start autostar suite & then select imager it offers you the lpi & dsi so both must use the same software.

Sticking with the Meade imager also offers the benefit of tracking with the autostar handset & cable but you will need to buy a serial - usb adapter.

From what i have read it is more to to with Vista than Meade's software.

Well I finally downloaded my LPI AutoStar software on my laptop running Windows Vista Premium.
Everything is running fine, unlike what you may here from others and even some of the manufacturers.

So the Meade LPI and DSI models and Software will function properly with Windows Vista Premium.

I am also getting a Meade DSI first generation imager next week.So I am thrilled to know all of this will function both on my laptop and also on the desktop I will have set up in my observatory.

I installed and tested Autostar Suite on my laptop running Vista and my DSI and DSI Pro give all the illusion of working fine. I wasn't so lucky with my LPI, so I guess I'll have to flog the RegEdit fix. My brother has already done it on his notebook and he reports it works fine once the Trusted Webcam/Meade LPI RegEdit fix is applied. It's not a big deal for me (yet) as my imaging computer is an olde XP desktop machine.
