How to make sketches look "clean"
      #2229267 - 03/01/08 01:08 PM Attachment (48 downloads)

I am new at sketching and I am wondering, how do you make your sketches look "clean" ( make the stars smooth and round)? I have PhotoShop Elements but I don't know what to do with it to fix my sketches. Thanks for your help in advance.
I am including one of my sketches to give an example of what I mean.

Ryan,

If you're drawing with a pencil at first, Jeremy Perez had a great tip for this.

When you're ready to position a star on paper, hold the pencil perpendicular to the paper. Simply twist the pencil like a drill and stars will appear round. Have a couple of different pencils in order to render stars of different brightness.

Much better than the usual way of trying to make small circles.

Best,

Ryan,

There are as many different ways to accomplish this as there are members who digitize thier sketches. What works for one may not work for another (or may not be as easy for one as it is another). Although our styles are similar, we all do things slightly different from each other as well...not because one is better or superior to another, it is just our personal preference(s) to do it a certain way.

At the top of this forum, there are many links from many of the sketchers here. Take a look around and see what style or methods look interesting or informative to you and give it a go.

Here are a couple of links to some of mine for your reference, but do not overlook the many other great tutorials by others here as well.

Hi Ryan!
I have the same difficulty with background stars. I use to make them round with the clone stump and the blur tool. always taking care to don't make them bigger than they are.
